Kate was born in 1976 and was a distinguished scholar of French, completing a BA (Hons) in French at the University of Sydney in 1999. She began performing in Paris while working as an English teacher at the Sorbonne in 2001.

After returning to Australia, Kate studied guitar and fingerpicking with Blue Mountains folk/blues guitarist and teacher Nigel Foote.

Apart from performing Kate has been variously employed as a book illustrator, cartoonist, high-school French teacher, children's party fairy, piano teacher, radio presenter and a saleswoman in a kitchenware shop.

Kate's former band Rodeo Dodo won the BluFM89.1 Singer/Songwriter competition in 2004. She co-composed the musical Catalist and has released an EP, 3 Songs, followed in 2007 by her CD The Simplest of Things, a mélange of lyrical ballads and whimsical observations.

She has performed regularly in the Blue Mountains and Sydney area, appearing at the Blue Mountains Folk, Blues and Roots festival in 2005 and 2007.

The Simplest of Things has received ABC radio play across the country, as has Kate’s follow-up single Song for Frank. In 2007, Kate was awarded the BluFM89.1 Award for Outstanding Contribution to Country Music, for her song ‘Jindabyne’.

In 2008 she was a Feature Artist on the Triple J Unearthed website, and in 2009 she was a finalist in the Victorian & Country Music Awards (Victorian Female Vocalist) for ‘Talk to You’.

In 2009 Kate began touring her music nationally with up-and-coming Perth songwriter Ryan Morrison who plays support and also accompanies Kate. Since January 2009 they have been performing together and solo in QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC and WA at concerts and festivals including the Apollo Bay Music Festival in Victoria and the Cobargo Folk Festival in NSW. They are sometimes joined onstage by Stephen Taberner, creator of the infamous Spooky Men’s Chorale, on double bass.

In September 2009 she toured in the UK as support act for the Spooky Men's Chorale to great acclaim.

Her children's song 'Space Rabbits of Brocklevoons' was awarded Session 1 grandprize in the John Lennon Song Contest Children's Song category.

Apart from a prolific talent for music, Kate also draws cartoons and has illustrated children's books: series 1 & 3 of Deltora Quest by her mother, children’s book author Emily Rodda.
